Awhile ago, I woke up, looked at my slumbering wife and wondered, what would happen if she was a hideous alien creature with the ability to maintain a human form? And what if that morning she'd been caught unawares and had not awakened before I, allowing me to see her true form?
Fortunately, my wife's not a hideous alien, far from it, but I thought, hey I should write a story about that. I did. It was awful. I've since rewritten it and it is out on the market looking for a home. Should it sell, one day you'll see it on this site.
Still, after that miserable failure, I was hooked. I wanted to be a writer. I still dabble in science fiction, but I've found my true love is mystery and suspense. In this area I can create stories that dwell in the gray area where good and evil mix. I like to mess with the reader's mind, make them question their own values and morals. When reading my stories, I want the reader constantly assessing who really is the protagonist and who really is the antagonist.
NIGHTSHADE, my first novel, available as an electronic novel, is one of those stories where I hope the reader will never quite be sure where good departs and evil boards. It is the product of another what-if scenario. I've always wondered how far a normal middle-class man will go to avenge his family's death. Of course, saying NIGHTSHADE is a simple revenge novel is like saying A TALE OF TWO CITIES is a story about...two cities.
You can find NIGHTSHADE, as well as novels by other talented writers, at www.e-pulp.com. I realize electronic publication is new and it's a risky venture. But, I like to live on the bleeding edge. And I hope you'll support this new medium. The potential is awesome, the delivery mechanism is immediate, and I think you'll find the quality is superb.
My dream lives on to be a writer, to entertain people with my stories. I'm not sure I'll ever know if I've reached the summit. Actually, I hope I never do. I hope the challenge of the climb is always before me.
A couple of years ago, I had one proud, but humbling moment. My short story Morning Call was published in the anthology Love Kills, edited by Ed Gorman. I'm proud of that accomplishment, but when I see my story scattered amongst stories by mystery greats like Lawrence Block, Evan Hunter, Ed Gorman, Ruth Rendell, and Donald Westlake, I am truly humbled. It's my hope someday I'll be included in such a list. And I depend on the readers out there to help me reach that point.
