When Victoria Benton's brutalized body is found,
John Carnes, a 32 year old Washington, D.C. homicide
detective, must determine if her death was an act of
singular passion or the work of a depraved killer.
Carnes, a divorced father who has custody of his seven year old daughter, is a good detective but a compulsive womanizer. Joined by his partner Peter Rodriguez, a cautious veteran nearing retirement, and Del Clinton, a streetwise young detective, Carnes tracks the killer from the Georgetown sanctuaries of the rich and powerful to the District's drug infested projects; from the overheated resort city of Ocean City to the suburban campus of the University of Maryland.
Before he can catch the killer, Carnes must confront his own past and his addiction to sex. As this fast-paced tale unfolds, the killer strikes again and again, and it becomes apparent that his next victim may be someone Carnes loves.
