April 14, 2011 - 10:23:04 (PST)
Barbara, I have been a big fan of yours since I started reading about Charlotte LaRue. I think I still have one last one to read. I too was hoping, as some of your other fans are, that Charlotte and Louis would getmarried. What I want to really know, is WHERE IN THE HECK CAN I FIND A MAIDLIKE CHARLOTTE? The maids I get could never accomplish what she does, and I am a few years older than she, but myback would be breaking with what she does at her age. Good Luck. I will have to start reading your other books.G.Fleming
March 23, 2011 - 10:40:27 (PST)

August 25, 2010 - 12:34:45 (PST)
Pae 265 in Dusted to Death appears to have a mistake. it says that Angelmay fire Dawn. I thought Dawn was a waitress in Mississippi. What did she do for Angel? This runied the entire book for me. Please tell me it is my mistake and Dawn did work for Angel even though it says she was a waitress.
July 10, 2010 - 14:32:49 (PST)

I've just finished and enjoyed "Dusted to Death" and wonder how the next book will play out now that Charlotte and Louis are engaged. I hope Charlotte keeps her "feisty" ways and Louis becomes part of her investigations. Thanks, Barbara, for this refreshing series!

April 29, 2010 - 09:55:05 (PST)
I live in Burnaby BC Canada. I\'m new to your books. Saw "Dusted" @ our local library, & intrigued by the title, borrowed it. I'm a fan of Linda Fairstein,New York being her AD's locale, I needed a map to follow her Heroine around. Now I'll need a map of New Orleans, to follow Charlotte. around.
April 21, 2010 - 18:28:33 (PST)
Oh my goodness, I just ordered two of your books and can't wait to read them. It looks like I will love the New Orleans setting the main characater, Ms.LaRue. Just glad right now to say hello ! Janice

Miss Barbara,Love all your books.
April 08, 2010 - 17:05:55 (PST)
Hello Mrs. Barbara Colley,Ive heard many things on your books. But i have never read one myself. If yew see this comment, can yew please email me back? thanksss. :)
March 24, 2010 - 19:33:23 (PST)
Love your series but I have a quality complaint. Your editor blew it on page 91. Angel is described as a slight risk but should have been a flight risk. Shame on those who expect us to pay $22 for a book and cannot be bothered to proof it!
March 17, 2010 - 14:33:04 (PST)
I LOVE all your books! Always waiting for the next one to be published.
March 10, 2010 - 11:44:02 (PST)
I have read and thoroughly enjoyed the Charlotte LaRue mysteries. But in the new book, "Dusted to Death", there is a discrepancy. On page 30, a major character is described as completely bald; in fact he reminded Charlotte of Mr. Clean. On page 258, the same character is being grabbed by his hair (this is about a week later)! Since I read the book in one sitting, the earlier description was fresh in my mind, so I double-checked. Yep, rapid hair growth!
February 27, 2010 - 09:19:58 (PST)
Barbara, You are a wonderful writer. I have kept up with all the Charlotte LaRue series. (Which I love!) I do have a question though. In the end of \\\"Dusted To Death\\\" Louis finally asked Charlotte to marry him. Louis has never been a fan of her putting herself out there to solve the mysteries. Will the series continue with them getting married? Thank you. Sincerely, Amandah Richmond
February 13, 2010 - 14:31:36 (PST)
Barbara, I have never been a reader until I picked up one of your Charlotte LaRue mysteries. I have now completed the entire series and would like to know when the next one is coming out - I'm anxious to find out Charlotte and Louis. Thanks for such great writing! Goooooooo Saints!!!

December 11, 2009 - 20:02:19 (PST)
Hi Barbara, We corresponded a good while back. Your name is my sister's, Barbara, and my name is your son's, Charles. Since that inquiry from me, I've launched my own imprint, have a second printing for SISTERBABY'S MONKEY, and I'm about to send SKULL COUNTY, USA to publishers. While my stories are not "squeaky clean" as you advised, they dig deep into what makes folks tick, grounded in my own family's struggle, oft-times. I hope you son made it back home safe and sound. Best, to a friend with a great name-Colley! Charlie Colley

Hi Barbara--I really enjoy your books and reading about my home state, too. I\'m originally from Shreveport, not too far from Minden, and my sister went to Louisiana Tech like you. I now live in Chicago, but reading your books keep me in touch with Looooosiana. I am going to treat myself to some Aunt Sally\'s pralines for Christmas. Gotta go order them now!

November 10, 2008 - 23:23:52 (PST)
Hi Barbara. I discovered your books this year and I think they're great. Unfortunately you and Laura Childs, Kate Collins and Laurie R. King can't write fast enough for me. You guys either need to write more quickly or I'm going to have to learn to read slower. Waiting for a new book in a mystery series just kills me. (no pun intended). However, I'm having a hard time finding all of them. Borders seems to have some of them as out of print and that makes no sense to me as it is a current and active series. You may want to check what's going on with them if the info they are giving me is inaccurate. There's one or two I haven't been able to get yet. But, if no other way I'll get them used. Can't wait till a new one is out.
October 25, 2008 - 20:04:11 (PST)

Like Charlotte, my first was second hand from our local library \"bring one, take one\" rack. My husband also enjoyed it very much, he\'d like to see Charlotte\'s hints in the books, rather like the cooking cozies. Thanks alot. Bless our Soldiers, bring them HOME. Barbara Colley:As I was browsing through paperbacks at my local book fair, I came across your book RACHELíS WAR. The title of the book didnít get my attention, it was your last name Ė Colley. Believe or not, my maiden name was Colley. I did get a chance to read your bio and understand that you are from Louisiana. My branch of the family is from Missouri, but my fatherís family is from Kentucky. Iím just wondering if you might be a relative. Colley is not a common last name. For years now, Iíve been doing our family research and I am always curious when I see the name Colley. Hope to hear from you.Shirley Colley WadellP.S. My husband and I will be in New Orleans in about a week or so. Do you have any suggestions as to restaurants? Thanks.

Barbara, I am a native Louisianian, also. I was born in Bastrop, LA and now live in Oak Grove, LA, where my husband and I own a vacuum cleaner business and a antique and doll shop. I have grown children and thier families that live on the MS coast who lost everything in Hurricane Katina. Two of my 7 children were born in Slydell, LA. I ran across your website and am excited and looking forward to reading your books. As the children are all grown but one who is 15 yrs old, I have just found time in life to take a brake for me. I have never had time to read books much until recently and was so happy to find your site. Not only the fact that you are from Minden, LA, but from the decription of your books, I am so looking forward to buying and reading them.God Bless and Keep You.Cynthia PullenOak Grove, LA

Barbara, I am so proud to know you and have you as a friend...just finished reading EVERY comment from your fans. I wish they could know you personally (or not) and know that these books are you...especially Rachel's War -- I found it extremely close to my heart and such a statement for the women of the world who send their men off to fight the ungoldy wars that tear families apart but bring the freedoms we all so take for granted. Good job my friend. Luv

Dear Ms. Colley,I would like to tell you how much I love your Charlotte LaRue mystery series. I have read all six in the course of a month, just having finished Scrub A Dub Dead. You are a wonderful writer and it is so terrific to find a series that I love to read!!! Please write your next book quickly!! I would love it if you could do a booksigning in the Chicago area. Once again, keep up the good work, you are a superb author. Thank you for filling my sleepless nights with Charlotte LaRue and her quirky adventures. Sincerely,Jean South Elgin, IL

Mrs. Colley, I absolutely love the Maid For a Day series! I have not read any other of your books but plan to. I discovered "Maid For a Day" purely by chance. It is wonderful to be able to pick up a book and read it without having to DEAL with profanity! It is fun to read about New Orleans, and imagine my surprise when I saw my hometown of Minden in Rub A Dub Dead! I then discovered that you are originally from Northwest Louisiana. The only complaint I have about your books is that there are not more of them at this time!!!! Thank you! Please don't retire Charlotte for years and years.

My sisters and I have enjoy all of the Charlotte La Rue books and am looking forward to your next one. Which we hope is soon.
February 27, 2007 - 21:11:34 (PST)
I discovered your Charlotte La Rue books on a recent trip to the library and checked out all of them that were available. The librarian is also going to order the other two that were missing from the collection, and I eagerly await their arrival. It is nice to know they care about having complete collections by an author as much as we readers appreciate their being available. I love New Orleans and must say it was a pleasure to become acquainted with Charlotte and her adventures. Oddly, we learned of my husband's becoming a diabetic at the same time I was reading of Charlotte's being diagnosed with the same conditon. Yesterday, I read of the announcement of Hank and Carol's impending arrival on the same day that my husband and her daughter made the same announcement to me! Hopefully, I will have the good fortune to meet you some day, perhaps at the Garden District Book Shop. Until then, I will look forward to finding out what intrigue will surround Charlotte in upcoming books.
February 19, 2007 - 14:55:22 (PST)
Barbara, congrats on your novels.
February 19, 2007 - 13:07:41 (PST)
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed Scrub-A-Dub Dead. I was wondering how you would treat Hurricane Katrina, and I think you made the right decision when you timed the book a year after the hurricane. Since I am now getting older, it is really nice to have books about heroines who are also on the older side. Society tends to think older women are invisible. I will be eagerly awaiting your next book in the series. One tiny criticism: you need to get a better proofreader.
February 18, 2007 - 12:26:27 (PST)
Hi! Mrs. Barabara, my reading class in school is reading one of your books, Maid for Murder. It is absolutely wonderful.

I have just come across your site and your books and I can't wait to read one! Your character sounds very interesting and as a former housekeeper/maid, I'm sure I'll be able to relate to her. I'm also an author (not in your league) as my first book, "Lucian's Angel" a fictional romance with a serial killer that takes place in New Orleans, was just released 3/06. I visited there in '91 & fell in love with the city & it's culture, can't wait to return. I was very touched by the video linked from your site. Keep up the good work!
May 26, 2006 - 07:35:04 (PST)

Kensington Books is where i found you as i was looking to meet other excellent authors writing from a different venue than I. This new sleuth is better, funnier and more appealing than Nancy Drew, but I'm not knocking her too hard cause I enjoyed her as well. I have a website with lots of different prose pieces, my published piece and useful information. Check it out when you have some spare time. Thanks, sharing the light

I totally love your book, Death Tidies Up! I just finished reading it and can\'t wait to get back to the library to get the next one!
April 25, 2006 - 11:04:23 (PST)
Charlotte is always stumbling into a murder! How one mild mannered lady gets involved in so many murders is beyond me! I have to say, though, that I am glad that she does. The books are so entertaining. Mrs. Colleys description of New Orleans makes me feel right at home. Tammy, Baton Rouge,La

I really enjoy your books. I feel as if Charlotte were my friend and neighbor. I like the Bitsy Duhe character as well. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and I hope all is getting better after the hurricane.
April 05, 2006 - 11:04:44 (PST)
Barbara, I just read Married to the Mop and loved it! You have such a special talent for not only making your characters and New Orleans come to life -- you make the reader really care about the people in your stories. You are truly a gifted writer.

February 14, 2006 - 10:30:58 (PST)
I have read all of your books and have enjoyed each. It is nice to read someone who loves to write good CLEAN books. Keep it up as they are simply great.
February 13, 2006 - 05:40:58 (PST)
I recently discovered your books and, like the greedy reader I am, have devoured them one after the other. I have just completed "Wiped Out" and must tell you that reading "Charlotte's" musings about the threat of hurricanes to New Orleans sent a chill down my spine. How soon those fears became fact. But I suppose that those very musings must have been a constant background thought to all who lived in and love New Orleans. How ghastly for you all. Now I find myself wondering how in the world you will handle the devastation in future books? Will the awful truth be integrated into Charolotte's life or will she continue to live in the ideal of what could have been had Katrina never happened? I'm sure either way will present a challenge to you, as a writer and as a lover of New Orleans. I love your books and look forward to learning what the future holds for Charlotte and all her friends and family. Sincerely, Linda Lynch

I first started reading your books with Death Tidies Up - because you had a realtor in the book named Hebert - and since that is my name and I am also a realtor - I was intrigued. I loved it and ran out and bought the rest! Keep writing them - they are great!
January 23, 2006 - 14:07:41 (PST)
I loved your book. I too clean houses but not for a living, for love. And I can't believe how much people will gossip infront of you like you're the mop. Congratulations.
January 22, 2006 - 11:00:18 (PST)
I just wanted to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!
December 25, 2005 - 04:35:45 (PST)
I just read one of books for the first time ,"Wiped Out". I really enjoyed it and will be getting all of the rest to read. I was wondering if you signed bookplates (if you're not going to be in the Charlotte, NC area signing books). I would love to add your mysterys to my collection of autographed mystery books. I sincerely hope you and your daughter did okay during and after the hurricane. My heart goes out to all of the hurricane and flooding victims.
December 10, 2005 - 06:05:42 (PST)
I was wondering when the next Charlotte La Rue book was due out?
October 23, 2005 - 18:20:24 (PST)
Barbara I work with Charlene and she let me read Wiped Out. It was great! I am looking forward to reading the rest of your books. By the way your sister is terrific. Sharon
October 17, 2005 - 08:50:03 (PST)
Dear Ms Colley;
I am on my second book in your series with Charlotte LaRue. And as I was reading I was just wondering how you made out with the hurricane. I know you really live just outside of New Orleans. Hope you did OK and maybe in one of your following books you might just have a hurricane for Charlotte to clean up.
October 07, 2005 - 11:52:00 (PST)
My mother, Clara Harper, is a big fan of yours. She wanted me to e-mail you and say she hopes you made it through the hurricanes okay. My mom lives in Oak Grove, LA, in the extreme northeast corner of Louisiana.

Dear Barbara: I hope you are fine and didn't lose any of your Charlotte LaRue stories. Katrina and then Rita! How much can anybody bear? Please stay safe
and keep writing your terrific stories.
Drop me a line when you can. Am anxious to hear that your relatives are also fine.
September 25, 2005 - 11:24:10 (PST)
I couldn't believe it when I picked your book up and said we share the same last name, Of course I brought it home with me and read it.
I married a Colley 50 years ago and still with him, he's a sweet guy.
September 20, 2005 - 05:17:55 (PST)
I totally enjoyed your new book, "Wiped Out" and the Charlotte character. I had a honeymoon in New Orleans and stayed in the French Quarter a long time ago and loved it. I'm glad Barbara and Charlotte are OK and the French Quarter made it through. I'm also a writer, writing a series of articles and a book about my famous magician father, Hugh Johnston. My thoughts and prayers continue for all the people in trouble in the world. Keep writing those wonderful books.
September 17, 2005 - 13:39:41 (PST)
I'm really enjoying getting to know Charlotte LaRue I hope you and she are safe and well. I'm happy I found this format to let you know I've worried for you and all of the affected Gulf. I hope Charlotte meets her grandchild soon and that Bitty and the others are able to stay linked after the hurricane. Blessings.
September 13, 2005 - 19:00:24 (PST)
Hurricane Katrina: For friends and readers who may be wondering, Barbara has checked in and is okay. We'll update as information is available.
August 31, 2005 - 08:54:03 (PST)
Dear Barbara, your Charlotte LaRue mystery series has given me significant pleasure. I was knocked out by your evocative handling of Charlotte's birthday celebration at Brennan's. As a Houston native, I have fond memories of the Houston Brennan's. And of course I'm enjoying your current book. I identify with Charlotte. I pray that Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, and you and yours are well. -- Brigitte

Just finished reading 3 of the Charlotte LaRue mysteries. Charlotte and I are alike in that we both own cleaning services. Some of the stories I could write. But unlike her I have yet to run across any murders. THANKFULLY!! Carolyn in S.C.

Hello! I finally found you! Read aone of your books a looooong time ago, then my mother in law unfortunately decided to give away my book to a friend... Since I was computerless I could only remember that you were from Minden... so (now that I'm "computerized") I googled. Not only did I find you, but found more of your books -YAY!- but also found that you were born in Ringgold. I promise I haven't followed you, but I've lived in Ringgold, went to school at Tech, and moved to just outside NO...
I'm just so excited that I found your homepage and more books!
Angie (now in Sweden)

I just discovered your books and read Maid For Murder. Thank you so much for writing a good clean mystery. So refreshing to read books without foul language and filth. I'm so looking forward to reading all your books. I love mysteries most of all.
July 26, 2005 - 20:23:27 (PST)
I just finished Wiped Out and it was wonderful. I was so happy that the baby came and everyone was ok. I also am so happy that her son is getting married. Even thought she sure is planning on this baby, even before she gets him married.
Louis is another one, boy I wonder if we will ever figure him out and if he will ever figure out what he's going to do. And now he has moved in his ex-wife.
It was wonderful. I loved every bit of it and Hated June I was so glad she was bad.
I look forward to the next book eagerly.

Your LaRue mysteries look good. I plan to get one soon.
May 29, 2005 - 08:01:04 (PST)
I love each book more than the last. It's always nice to discover a new mystery writer who doesn't dissapoint.
One thing...on page 125, it says that you clamored out of your vehicle, rather than clambered. Your editor should have caught it and you might want to tell them for any subsequent editions. I know it's a small thing, but I just thought you should know.
Keep on writing your wonderful books
May 24, 2005 - 13:50:40 (PST)
I love Charlotte LaRue and am so glad that Daniel & Nadia got married and that they are going to have their own, hers and ours babies. Boy her sister is sure a pip, but in Polished Off she seems to be coming around She sure is lucky go have a sister like Charlotte. I had no Idea that you were to 5 already so I am two behind. Must get that taken care of.
Thanks for all the fun and total suspense you have given us with Charlotte. Poor girl cant seem to help herself stay out of trouble. Oh by the way I was so glad that Barbara got rid of that crooked cop. Your solutions to getting rid of the bad guys are so original. May your name become a household word and long live Charlotte.

April 19, 2005 - 10:01:48 (PST)
So many years have passed since I first met you through David, your husband. David and I have been friends for, lets see, getting on to more years than I care to mention.
I had forgotten that you were an author though it was the topic of conversation between David and I many years ago. How could I forget something like that when I too, do like to write. No, I have never published anything or even submitted anything for consideration. Maybe I fear rejection. It is so pleasing to see that you are a success and do so enjoy what you do. Perhaps its to be you shall re-inspire me.
I shall purchase all your works so that I may know you better than one might know in brief conversation.
I wish you well and hope we shall again meet in not too distant future. Give my regards to David.
B. Darryl McIntyre

Keep up the awsome work you are a great author and we love the New Orleans settings.

I read your latest book, Wiped Out, after meeting you last Saturday at Murder by the Book. As usual, I cannot put a good book down once I start it! I had to let you know that I loved your description of Mimi's husband as having " a gizzard of a heart"! Charlotte's character continues to delight me as I erupt into laughter over her "thoughts." Thank you for providing such a lovable character as Charlotte LaRue!
March 15, 2005 - 08:40:31 (PST)

I love the redesigned website, Barbara! It's excellent and has all the features I most like in an author site. Thanks, especially, for the backlist information and links to booksellers for all your books, even for the out-of-print ones. I like the fact that you listed your mysteries in the order in which they appeared. Makes it easier for a new reader to know the order in which to read them. Kudos to you and to your website designers!

Your Charlotte Books are a real treat. For some many books on the shelves that are bordering on the obscene between the violence and sex it is a pleasure to read some that a person can truly enjoy without cringing every other chapter. Thank You

September 10, 2002 - 17:18:41 (PST)
Dear Ms. Colley,
I just wanted you to know that I have just discovered your Charlotte LaRue mysteries. I just finished reading Maid for Murder and I loved it. Your style of writing is a lot like Mary Higgons Clark. I can't afford to buy books, therefore I have to get them from the library. I raced back to the library and that was the only book of yours that they had. I live in a very small town so new books are hard for them to get, but I placed my order for them to get your books if possible. Thanks a lot.
August 21, 2002 - 14:55:57 (PST)
Ms. Colley--I really enjoyed Maid for Murder and am very glad to see another book in the series will be ready very soon. A friend of mine at work and I have our own book exchange which includes Julie Smith and Jennifer Crusie, and now you. Thanks, Milda Capponi

Dear Barbara Colley, I am in the middle of MAID FOR MURDER and just had to drop it and run to the computer to send you this note: I'M LOVING IT! Cannot wait for more of Charlotte LaRue.
I was born and raised in Houston and am avid mystery fan. We all know how tough it is to find something to read that suits us perfectly. It's a beautiful book, combining the imaginative and emotional with the practical. Sincerest thanks.
